35 years old, my adult life has consisted of working offshore for a less-than-wonderful two weeks when I was 18, followed by a stint in the US Navy as an Electronic Warfare Operator aboard the P-3 Orion, with VP-22 based out of NAS Barbers Pt, Hawaii. After I left active duty, I did some time with VP-94 a USNR squadron out of NAS New Orleans, where we did more drinking than flying.
Next up, was about a year as selling software, in the old DOS/Windows 3.x days. It wasn't as bad as working offshore, but it did last considerably longer. More of a dull pain than the sharp, bone sticking out of your flesh kind.
After losing that job (incidentally, the only one I've ever been fired from, and believe me, it was no great loss), I spent a year and a half as a flight attendant with American Eagle.
From flight attendant, I moved on to professional geek. I was employed by Perot Systems for ten years, and worked not only in Texas, but in Boca Raton and Ft Lauderdale Florida for three years, and nine months at Stanford University Hospital (which was quite interesting).
Now I'm really in a wonderful place called Javelin Direct, where I'm the half and half tech, working on PCs and Macs. I really enjoy it here, a casual dress environment and an outstanding manager who understands how things should work.
My "free time" used to be spent as a performer at Scarborough Faire, the renaissance festival just South of Dallas, but I suppose you could say that I'm currently on sabbatical. Sometimes we just need to step back from things for a bit.
Now I'm focusing myself on my new house, getting it cleaned up, taking care of the lawns, and generally doing that adult-type stuff. Aside from the joy of having plenty of room, I also have the pleasure of a large, sunken jacuzzi bathtub and a huge back patio where mornings usually find me drinking coffee while checking my email and listening to the birds and squirrels. Heck, I spend hours out there on the weekend, weather permitting.
